Hello All, I am about to replace my Rolls 12HHG 185 battery which I have used mainly as my house battery. It sits nicely foward of the Westerbeke 27hp below the steps. I would like to go with a battery with the most capacity that will fit in that space, approx. L-21". W-9 1/2", H-11". I was thinking of a 4D, but the battery box for that battery is too large for that spot. Has anyone gone with a 4D without a battery box or gone with golf cart batteries in that space, forward of the engine? Would like to get away from a Rolls, am looking for other options. My starting battery is a wet battery, I want to stay with the same type. Also, has anyone added a third battery on a 331? We lived onboard for seven months last year and are planning on doing that again in a couple of years. Thanks, the Bum

I have a 361 so the area for the battery is probably the same for both boats. I had a 4D that I replaced with 2 Trojan 6V golf cart batteries wired in series. They're the T105s rated at 225 Amp Hrs, a nice improvement over the 185 amp 4D I replaced.

Trojan T 105's

Thanks Mike, I have looked at the dimensions of the T 105's and it looks as though they may fit. I may have to build a box to keep them in, they should be much easier to handle than the 4 D. Thanks Again, the Bum

Bum, the T105 were much easier to heft around than the old 4D. They fit nicely in the same spot the 4D was in, under the bottom step. I strapped them together for stability which seems to work so far. Cheaper, more power and easier to install, all good reasons to go for it. Good luck Mike
