The hour meter on my Yanmar has stopped working. In my case it is mounted on the port bulkhead in the engine compartment, fairly easy to reach. The wiring is hidden beneath the sound insulation material. No apparent reason. I'd like suggestions for where to begin troubleshooting, or, perhaps I should just get a new one installed. Opinions?Ideas? Sanders

Pick up any hour meter (a Hobbs meter)

out of any catalog (marine, auto, aviation) and install it your self. If you already have a hole in your panel the whole installation won't take more than 1/2 hour. I installed one when my new 2001 engine was installed. I think it's just two or three wires.

Troubleshooting

The hour meter runs from 12 Volts when the key is on. With the key on, check to see if you have 12 volts at the meter. If you do, change the meter. If you dont't check the wiring back to see where it is disconnected.
