hot water tank removal

The hot water tank on the 310 (hull 31) I am looking at is badly rusted and must be removed. It looks as if it was installed before the deck was put on and must be cut to pieces in place in order to remove. Any experience out there?

I would be more concerned as to why its badly rusted. Mines 12 years old and no issues.

Someone never tightened a hose clamp and water dripped on the top for years.
