I have a Hunter 28.5 and the previous owner removed the hot water heater. I would like to install a new heater but I’m not sure what to look for. I don’t want to have a large heavy heater since we’ll really only use it to wash our hands with. Some exchangers are front exchanger rear exchanger; I assume that’s where the hook ups are. Then there’s vertical orientation and horizontal orientation, I have a lot of room to install this unit so is one better than the other? I was thinking of just going with the inexpensive seaward 6 gal tank. One last question, do I need to install another electric water pump on the hot water side?

Chances are your original water heater was a Seaward unit. These units are made with two different styles so you can find the one that is best for your application. Are the original hoses still in place?

Im replacing this exact thing right now on my 85 Hunter 31. The unit thats in my boat looks to be original and is a Seaward (6gal)

http://www.bing.com/shopping/water-...r&lpq=seaward 6 gallon water heater&FORM=HURE

The measurements on the one in my boat are 13 Width x 15 3/4 Length x 13 Depth.

There is an electic "SureFlow" water pump inbetween the unit and the holding tank.

Best bet looks to be West Marine and have them price match. Big thing is not paying shipping which is about $90.

Hope it helps!

Heater does not require an additional pump. The potable water pump has a "tee" in the discharge side that feeds the tank and then the hot water system.

All of the plumbing is still in place, so it sounds like it's a pretty strait forward job with no real caveats or extra pumps to install. I am just going to buy an inexpensive heater and see what happens.

Thanks for the help!!
