My 79 H33 is powered by a raw water cooled 2gm engine and the original 5 gallon heater was just a straight resistance element residential type water heater without a heat exchanger. Located in the cockpit locker, it took up much space at a strategic location. In addition, the outer shell, of mild steel, had essentially just rusted away, especially at the bottom, leaving a rusty mess. The heater was replaced with a 2 1/2 gallon Tiny Titan water heater which Lowes is presently stocking. This small water heater has good insulation, a plastic outer shell and an approximate box shape, allowing mounting directly on the forward bulkhead underneath the lavatory cabinet. There it takes up hardly any room at all and provides hot water, at least for the lavatory, essentially at once. In addition, the heating element at 1350 watts, allows careful powering by the inverter when away from shore power. The heater keeps hot water for many hours when disconnected. After plugging the original hot and cold supplies, a couple of Ts into the hot and cold supplies to the lavatory faucet leading to the hot and cold supplies for the heater was all that was necessary except for making the electrical connection. Clearance is very tight but workable.

Very useful post.

Thanks Terry. I'm betting this will help a lot of guys win over the First Mate. I might even add one while keeping my 6 gallon. The old holding tank location under the shower seat of the H37C might be good. I would never turn on the 6 gallon away from shorepower but for 1350 watts?

Fits well

I put the same model in my h30 years ago. Had the same problem with the original. It came out in parts - mostly rust.

Yep, I mentioned this a couple of years ago...

replaced my cold water tank, oh, excuse me, my failed hot water tank, with the very same Titan hot water heater.. put mine on the bulkhead next to the waste tank... fits out of the way and does a wonderful job for $89.00 plus tax and labor (free) So, hit the switch, start the engine and before I can leave the dock we have hot water.. like terry said .. for a few hours. After that.. boil some water on the stove!
