I've got a 1975 C27 and am starting to get jealous of other boats with hot water. I've got a 10hp raw water cooled diesel and was wondering whether it's possible to install a water heater. Or is this something you do only with a fresh water cooled setup. Would anyone know whether it's possible to install a water heater with raw water cooling? Any ideas, or thoughts would be appreciated.

Hot Water

A hot water/ heat exchanger is easy to install on your boat. I also cruise the same waters you do. The only problem is, the sea water is so cold here that the engine doesn't really get warm to enough to heat the water in the heater. The only option I've found is to heat the water with the AC before I leave the dock. It will pretty much stay hot all day. I got my heater replacement from Sailnet.com. $169. It was very easy to insstall, but you may have to alter your exhaust elbow to accommodate the return from the exchanger to the exhaust. I may eliminate the water going to the heater all together when I replace the exhaust elbow. It really serves no purpose try ing to heat water with 70 degree raw water. Hope this helps. Thanks

Thanks Sean. That's pretty much what I figured. I'll see later in the year whether it makes sense for me to instal.
