Use Kleen strip paint brush cleaner For the out side of the hose. Unplug the power cord

My experience is this cure is worse than the disease. By that, I mean the solvent will aide in cleaning but will also remove the plasticizers in the hose or cable such that it gets even more dirty faster. As the saying goes, Your mileage my vary.

Try WD-40. I'm a photographer & we use it to clean sticky tape residue and dirt off our cords after they've been taped to the floor. Works great and it's not too harsh.

Paint brush & roller cleaner. Works great on fenders, too.

You may be able to get another couple of years out of the electrical cord by giving it a quick swipe with a cloth soaked in acetone. I KNOW, I KNOW it dissolves the vinyl but it does remove the dirt quickly. Most importantly, wipe the cord well with ArmorAll or Meguiar's rubber and vinyl cleaner and protectant after cleaning with acetone.

The best you can hope for is a few more years using these protectants after cleaning. I got 14 years out of my 30A cord and will be disposing of it this spring as I've had it with all the marks it's now leaving on the deck. Actually, 14 years of bird crap and UV is not too bad at all.

Brush cleaner?...Acetone? What about good ol' bleach? Spray it on and let it sit a bit and wipe it off. How clean do they really need to be anyway?
