Hood Furling

My 1995 came with a Hood SL800 series furling. How do you shackle is to the deck? That part of the system was missing when i bought it and I jury rigged a few different shackles. There is about a 90 degree swing when I furl the sail in. Is this normal?

I don't remember the model number I have but I have a Hood furler for my 88 C30. My is attached with a small "D" schakle (sp?) through the hole in the bottom of the furler unit, and attached to the boat where the foot of a sail would normally be attached without a furler. I have a couple of pictures that aren't specifically aimed at that attachement, but you can zoom in and get an idea. On my Hood furler I used a 1/4" piece of low stretch line and tied it to the deck instead of a fixed D shackle. It works fine and I have approx. 15 degree "swing" at most.
