Clean 'er out

I had a real hard time with the hood "line drive" (i.e. continuous loop) furler until I gave it a good squirting with the hose. After that worked much easier. Apparently salt and stuff can build up in the drum making it very hard to turn.

Another Possibility

Tony: Another thing to check out if the rinsing & cleaning don't help the situation is the Centering Clamp. This may be accessed by lowering your headsail and lifting the Drive Unit Assembly up until the centering clamp is visible. Mine had deteriorated an came off the headstay. I called Hood and they sent me a replacement at a reasonable cost. I had them include the screws and nuts as well. You may have to enlarge the center hole to fit over your headstay. After replacing the Centering Clamp, the unit worked well. Steve S/V Sea Squared

Hood furler repair..

On my 34, 1984 model, the Hood furler was terrible to pull in. Sent the drum and top assembly back to Hood, who refurbished in 24 hours. Now.. a pleasure to furl. They press out and replace bearings and races. Regards, Jim
