A friend of mine called me today. He has a 1980 Catalina 30 and he is having difficulty with the head sail furler. I have not had an opportunity to look at it yet. I remembered him telling me that he had recently removed a pendant that raised the jig a few inches, I thought maybe the halyard angle was now to shallow causing it wrap around the foil. This seems unlikely because he said they could not winch it in but he went forward and easily turned the foil and sail by hand. This sound more like a lower bearing failure. Any advice? Exploded view or photo of drum/bearing assembly? He said he was unable to find the model number.
