I have a 8 HP Honda OB on our Hunter 240 and I would like to connect it to the battery. It came with a plug to connect to the motor. The manual just says connect your wire to the plug and attach to the battery. Not much help. Has anyone rigged this up? What kind of wire did you use, and how did you route it in to the battery? The battery and motor are both on the starboard side. TIA!

Here you go

I put a thru-hull plate nearby for a 14 gauge wire to the battery switch. You would want to make sure that you get the polarity right. Best to test it with a volt meter if it’s not marked. My Honda dealer says the generator will not produce below 2000 rpm, so you will need to test it out on the water.

Honda 10 hp o/b has an external plug fitting

that you attach your wire too. Honda sells the plug to fit it. 12g wire is what I used but 14 g is ok. 12 is bigger and flows better. I ran it thru a hull adapter and to the battery. The o/b port is marked + or -. use different color wires such as red /black or white/black. My normal use of the o/b keeps the battery up. If you use an excessive amount of juice you will have to run the o/b longer. The output is 14.2 volts at 5 amps. To raise your generating power install a lower pitch prop on the o/b to raise the rpm range and therefor the electrical output. Ray s/v Speedy
