The throttle and shift cables on my Honda 50HP engine bend against the rudder linkage bar on my 2002 26X. I can run the cables under the bar and the engine can be raised all the way for trailering. This is preferred because it puts the weight of the engine pretty much directly over the transome, rather than having it hanging to the rear while bouncing down the road. Using this set up, however, the cables are severely bent when the engine is down and the throttle and shift controls are stiff and difficult to operate.I've tried the cables over top of the rudder linkage bar. This makes the engine controls smooth but the engine can only be raised about halfway (if that) before the cables jam against the linkage bar. I've noticed in the 26X brochure and some other photos that there are differnt linkage bars, but I am not sure how these would fit the factory steering coupler on my boat. I am thinking of the Teleflex Extreme cables because they look to be more flexible. Any thoughts, experiences, opinions would be greatly appreciated.I am planning on changing the cables as a first step and if that alone does not solve the problem, I may have to get a new bar fabricated that allows extra clearance just forward of the engine.
