Hi everyone! I have just finished re-locating my batteries to under the port seats in the cabin. This weekend I plan to run the wire and fuse from the batteries to the back of the boat behind the rear bulkhead. I am trying to determine the proper wire size for the approx. ten (10) foot run. I have come to realize that the current load on that wire is the most important factor. The heaviest load will be made by my Honda 9.9 with an electric starter yet I can't seem to find how many amps the Honda's starter motor draws. Any Information on the amp draw, wire and fuse size or, for that matter, any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Move over and let me answer

You figure about drawing about 20-22 amps for short bursts. If the engine does not start, do not keep trying to start it as it will not for those who pull that stunt. You probably have a fouled carburetor just like a foul duck trying to poop in the boat. You can use either # 8 or #6 but if you want to be really safe, then use #6. I am the expert on this one. End of conversation and good luck with your project. Crazy Dave Condon

I used 6 gage

I did the same thing last year. I have the same electric start Honda 9.9 and its starts okay. I would not go any smaller in size. If you have a picture, can you post it? I still have some "dressing up" to do on mine. See attached. You will love the balance it gives the boat. -Nils Anderson
