Will the stock engine mount on a 1988 Hunter 26.5 hold the weight and size of a 4 cycle Honda 8hp or 9.9hp? Is there a great deal of performance difference between the 8hp and the 9.9hp high thrust engines?

We have fitted a Yamaha 4 stroke 8hp with power tilt and remote controll to our new 260 WB. It is nothing short of excellent. Without sounding like I'm selling them it is one of the finest little motors we have used. Some of our yachts have Evenrudes, Johnsons and mercuries however what made our decision easy for this particular yacht was the power tilt supplied as standard. Not an after market bolt on.It has reverse thrust so that in reverse it has just as much pull. The weight we feel (38kg) is about as much as you would want to place on the standard brackets supplied with the yacht. We have now clocked up 8.5 hours with this new motor and its running fine.

8hp Honda 4-stroke

We went with the 8 hp Honda 4-stroke for our 1986 23 Hunter. We also replaced the stock mounting bracket with a Garelick. The 8 hp is more than adequate for our boat - we can go faster than we did with the Force 9.9 that came with the boat.

Love that 8

I've just put a Honda 4cy 8 on my 25 and it's all that the others said - it is indeed yummy and plenty of power for the boat
