I'm making a short hop in Puget Sound from Port orchard, WA to Des Moines, WA, (about 20nm) My 1976 Catalina 27 will be slung out there and put on a truck. Unfortunately the lift in Port Orchard can't take off my mast and it's not a drop down but Des Moines can.

This is the first time using the boat and outboard. Can anyone give me an idea of how many gal an hour a 1998 Honda 15 hp four stroke would take?

IF the 15 is hotter-turned version of the venerable and famous 10.....
My old Honda 10 used to burn a half gallon an hour. That was at 6 knots on a 26 foot sloop. That thrifty and quiet little engine once brought us all the way from Pt Angeles to Astoria on a windless weekend... 46 hours...

IMHO, a 15 is a lot more hp than a Cat 27 would normally ever need, so you will be cruising at low rpm's. Hope you have a flatter-pitch prop suitable to your displacement hull.

It really depends as i also have a 19' powerboat with a GPS integrated Fuelflow and it varies between 1 MPG and 6 MPG depending on the weather i am bucking as sometimes even in a powerboat you cant make much speed over the ground :)

Fill up the tank (probably 6 gallons) and take another 5 gallon jerry can.... My two stroke Tohatsu 15 hp uses a little over 1 gallon/hr...at 5.0 kts in average seas.. so your 4 stroke should get better than that. When you're finished top the 6 gallon tank off with the jerry can then put the remaining fuel in your car.
