Just got back, 24 boats sailed (motored) to Bimini and back two of us were Hunters, my 260 and a 30 footer. We had a BLAST!!!!, total trip was 220 nm on the water. I towed my Baums Rush from High Point NC to about 20 miles south of Miami Fl. Anybody interested I'll write more about the trip later.

Homestead to Bahamas

John, when are you going to do it again? I have the desire to make the passage in my own 260, but don't want to go solo boat. My wife and I are planning an adventure on the Pamlico and Neuse Rivers for July this year, launching at Belhaven. Steve Kamp, H 260 "Carolina Girl"

ok, more details

We have been planning this trip for almost a year, most of the boats were mac 26's. I think this trip will happen again next year at around this time. I just got back today, so I'm still a little trip punchy, unpacked the boat and trying to get everything back in order. I will post some pictures in the picture form... tomarrow Baums Rush traveled 215 nm under motor and sail. Broke up the 24 boats to 2 fleets of 12 boats and traveled at the speed of the slowest (about 4.5 kts). It took about 13 hrs to Bimini and 15 hrs back, went thru no storms going but 2 comming back. Took to much food, had plently of water, refigerator worked great, next year A/C. You might check out my modifications on the picture form under " My 260 improvements" We (my wife and I) left on the 19 of June and got back today 30 June. I put the web site of the fleet below.

So many questions...

Indulge my silly questions please: 1. Any issues with the open transom on the cockpit? 2. What were worst conditions you encountered during this trip. 3. Did you have much trouble with your prop coming up out of the water as you passed over waves?

answers to some of your questions

1. No problems with the open transom, in fact it was a plus, washed out any spilt fuel, during refueling. 2. Worst conditions, 5-6 ft following seas wind about 35 kts, rain comming down in buckets. 3. The only problem we had with the prop comming out of the water was when we rolled to port, I just adjusted the angle of the course. Pitch wasn't a problem just roll. as a note: when traveling at night the prop would cavatate every once in a while, found the problem was sea weed around the skeg of the outboard.... slowed down went in neutral raised the outboard and cleared the sea weed. Got to be it took only about 3 seconds to clear.

Motor and Fuel Consumption

Looked at the cruise web site you listed - looked like a fun trip. I noticed on the web site that the plan was to motor over and back. Is that correct? How much fuel did you carry and how? What motor do you have? What fuel consumption in gallons per hour did you experience?

Saw your pic

Saw your photo on the home page and noticed the pole just right of your rudder sitting in the holder for the mast yoke. What do you have there? I just bought a Dink with a 9.9 OB and thought I might have a custom Davit made to lift the motor that fits in the same place.

More answers to questions

Motor is a 9.8 Tohatsu fuel consumption going to Binimi was 6 gal (with current) comming back 14 gal (against current) I carried 19 gal, made a second shelf under the captains seat above the steering cable. carried 11 gal underneath steering cable, 8 gal on "new shelf" I have to take some pictures of the modifications I did for this trip, I'll get that done tomarrow. On the port side aft I made a holder for the gin pole (now a flag pole), also works as a hand rail for using the ladder and an anchor light stand (one bulb instead of the two), couldn't find a place below decks, on the stbd side is the mast yoke
