I am considering changing the main sheet array on my '82 Mac 25. I want to use a traveler to give more control over the main. Have any of you done this? Marty

I use this with a mid boom sheet, I do have to come up into the wind to adjust it

back in the day a bunch of us built one, by using 2x2 stainles square tubing about 8 inches wider than the cockpit floor width, so no quite as wide as the cockpit between the seat back, positioned about 8 inches back from the picture above, used 2 more pieces of square tubing mounted to the virticle sides of the cockpit just below seat level, This way it is removable... I used a harken car that allowed adjustments from either end of the traveler... worked pretty well. for just cruising we added a simple eyeloop in the center of the step to attach the mainsheet to, so as to make room when not racing.

Mid boom traveler is best thing since sliced bread. It eliminates having to reach aft to adust the mainsheet. You will also be able to bring the boom closer to centerline and this will enable you to reach higher and fine tune mainsail. It also acts as a downhall. If you race you may have to check with your association to see if it's allowed. Keep old hardware just in case. I bought a rig from harken and bolted through cockpit seat entire width of cockpit. since seats are slightly canted you need to shim. I used teak. Backup everything with underdeck plates. You'd be amazed how much load it creates. Also I reinforced underside of track. You'll love it. Fair Winds.
