While shopping at Home Depot for a household project, I foung stainless steel anchor shackles in both 5/16" and 3/8" for less than $4. I know I paid $10-15 for the last one I bought at WM. Think theres a difference in quality?

Home Depot

Home Depot makes many demands of its vendors, the #1 demand is MAKE IT CHEAPER OR WE WON'T BUY IT FROM YOU. The end result is a reduction in quality not to mention loss of American jobs. When you demand the cheapest product, thats what you get. Thanks Paul

I found 'inexpensive' anchor shackles at Orchard Supply (OSH), but noted that the breaking strength was less than half that of the marine version. This may also be true at Home Depot. Caveat Emperor (sp?) Michael

Bob, I noticed the same thing at my local HomeyD. The brand name was Atwood, a respected marine manufacturer. I've seen their products carried in Wally's too. Just check the breaking strength to be sure it is sufficient for your needs.
