I have a large access hole on the port side of my engine. The good news is it allows great engine access, the bad news: it allows stuff to fall/roll into the engine. I have burned up 2 fenders so far(and worry about something getting caught in the prop shaft). My question: has anybody covered up this access and did it cause any engine overheating problems. I have noticed other boats with more sealed up engine compartments have 2 vents with hoses run to the engine compartment. Should I enclose engine w/ a piece of plywood & and then are vents required? Thanks for some good advice

No experience with this but why not buy some metal lathe or other such rigid wire material and mount it in a frame large enough to cover the access. Air flows in but no fenders! Good luck, mike

tennis net

I just use a piece of heavy cloth net - basically a piece of tennis net. Permanently mounted across the bottom and then lifted up to hooks I mounted at the top.
