I guess I'll say yes. But I'm not sure if you mean for winter layup or year round. I'm not sure what a "Riser Pole" is but you may mean the mast.
Of more concern is the pretty large hole in the mast with a dodgy repair. Care to fill us in?

I don't understand the system but water that gets in the opening could create problems in the deck step area so I'll stick with "Yes" it should be covered

Looks like it has been replaced or repaired once already.

The reinforcement on the 260 wraps a much larger distance around the mast. In theory the gin pole shouldn’t be pressing against the opening sides with much pressure. Just enough to keep the pole aligned side to side. Movement in the up/down-fore/aft directions should be controlled by the halyard/main sheet.

Part is available here.

Make sure you get appropriate rivets. It looks like yours have some ferrous metal.

The gin pole is 1 1/4 and they show only one for the 26 an it is 1" hole

I'd not get too excited about it. It is worn from doing it's job but still looks functional.

Perhaps I might order the new one and make sure I have the rivets and rivet gun to replace it when I want to work on the boat and have run out of more pressing chores. On the list of things to do but not at the top.

If you use stainless rivets it takes quite a grip to pop the rivet with a hand tool after four it is time for a beer before moving on. Depends on your grip strength. Larger ones are available. rivet guns | McMaster-Carr

I would use aluminum so you don't get electrolysis between the SS and aluminum.

Still waiting on SBO to answer my email. They show a placement hole cover with a 1" hole, I need a 1 1/4" hole.

Sincec I designed the system, it is called the mast raising pole. Is that pole aluminum? Do.you own the 26 vs 260 or 23.5 vs 240. The aluminum mast raise pole was aluminum.

When did the bottom of that hole cave inward some? Did that result under the previous ownership or owner ? When the mast raise pole is inserted, I use to teach my customers to raise the pole till it touches the top of the hole in the mast to counter the stretch of the jib halyard to avoid the pole hitting or touching the bottom. That is what happened here where the pole was inserted in the hole and pulled down Against the bottom of the hole damaging the mast.
The top plate is for added support. Damage to that plate is also on the mast but not enough to do anything at this time. Suggest you follow my suggestion and look at the hole when the pole is close to the deck. Also never pot pressure on the pole during lifting or lowering or the pole will collapse with the mast tumbling down

Did the 26 and 260 have different diameter mast raising poles or does the OP’s 260 have an “aftermarket” mast raising pole?

It is a 1996 h26, the bottom of the hole looks ok. I have not raised or lower the Mast yet. Brought the 26 two mouth ago, will start sailing the first of April. Would like to get to know the boat first then do some trailer sailing at the end of the summer.

Based on this attachment, I would say you don’t have a factory mast raising pole if it is 1¼” in diameter.
And I don’t think you have an actual problem, anyway, because the pole does not lever against the edge of the hole while in use, if it is properly rigged. The halyard and the main sheet should keep the pole positioned without pressing on the edge of the hole.
So it doesn’t really matter if the hole is a little beat up, I think, so long as the end of the pole rests properly against the inside of the mast through the hole.
If you really want to replace that plate, I would buy the factory piece (from this web site?), and enlarge the hole as needed to fit your pole.

Thank for the comments, the pole rest at the back of the Mast and Its cut to fit the mast track inside the Mast. For now I'm not going to worry about it. On to the next project bottom paint.

Is the pole aluminum. If so it is the actual pole. Look under boat information for the hunter 26 and 260 as you will find a lot of information to include mast raise instructions.

My mast raising pole is in the garage. I measured its 1 1/4 and is original. I would replace the reinforcing cover just because I have seen the results of mast raising malfunctions, and yes birds like the hole so I put a piece of duct tape over it. A friend has dropped his 2 times, te second because a pin came out of a shackle.
