I need to fill and re-drill holes for my foreward hatch on my 1983 O 23 (the hinge broke and I need to replace it w/ a hinge whose holes are slightly off). What is the best product to use to fill the holes and are there any tips to re-drilling. Also, does anyone have the manual for the O 23, the one on this site does not print well on my printer (I can't read it). I only need the operating and rigging instruction. I think my shrouds may be too loose. Thanks Jonathan

Epoxy; not worth it
I like the West System epoxy. It is easy to use and practically bullet proof. Another advantage of using the West System brand is that it comes in very small quantities. If all you need to do is fix around the area of one hinge, you don't want to have to spend $40 to buy the smallest pump containers of the resin and epoxy sold by most brands. West sells "fix up" kits that include mixing cups, tools, and small packets of thickeners, resin and hardener. I just bought the smallest one for about $8. More than enough for what you are planning. As for the "Owner's manual," don't bother. It has no useful information about how tight to make your shrouds. there are a lot of opinions on this subject in the archives of this site. find one that works for you. I bought the "manual" from Rudy at D&R Marine (drmarine.com) before someone put it on this site. I don't even know where it is or I would offer to sent it to you. If you still want it, I'm sure he will still sell it. I think he only charged a couple of bucks. FWIW, I tighten my shrouds until the lee shrouds in a stiff breeze are still a little taught.

Try penetrating epoxy?
I have recently completed some fiberglass repars on my Oday25 and used penetrating Epoxy, it is very cool if you know what your getting into. It is a very thin consistency almost water like and it soaks into the fibers and then hardens. It takes a while to harden, ( like 4-6 hours) but the key is its thin and takes longer to cure, you keep putting more of it in your old holes until the holes are done absorbing it then it hardens. Essentially the entire substrate around your "bad holes" gets very hard, you can then fill them with a regular epoxy and fair it. It is sold by west marine and also comes in smaller quantities. In your case you will want to block off the backs of the holes while the pentrating epoxy is be absorbed.
