Hello everyone, I want/need to replace my holding tank in my Pearson 30, at the moment it has a bladder type tank but it leaks where the fittings attach so I thought about installing a rigid tank in its place, I will be taking the measurements on the weekend but there seems to be a few brands out there, I don’t know what is good and what is not

+1 for Ronco Plastics.
They make TOP quality thick-walled (50% thicker than most other mfrs) water and waste tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular, and they install fittings--including diptubes--in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank. There are retailers who sell Ronco tanks, but Ronco sells direct for a much lower price...and they're great to work with.

You'll find their catalog here Ronco Plastics marine Tanks and their catalog of tank drawings here Ronco Plastics tank drawings
When looking at drawings it's important to know that there is no top or bottom until the fittings go in, and YOU decide where they go. So rotate, flip in any orientation to find the tank that fit your space.

I'll be glad to answer your questions and help you spec the fittings in the best locations and sizes to give you a trouble free and odor free system.

My 35 yr old 31-2 Pearson sprung a leak thru a crack at the bottom last yr. It was terrible! It was near full at the time. Anyway, I looked into replacing it with a generic pre-made tank but... b/c the Pearson's holding tank is a unique configuration that has a shoe-horned fit in the v-berth, I had to get one made using my specs from the old tank. I found only 2 companies that would make me one, one in Florida and one on the east coast that would not require me to remortgage my house. Due to the age of my boat there were zero companies that had my specs...I called every single company, I spent HOURS researching.
There is a PEARSON FORUM on Yahoo(I think). Ask for the tank dimensions for your specific boat. The people on the forum are very handy.

Unless Ronco Plastics was the original OEM tank supplier, you'll need to search their tank drawings catalog (see link to it in post #3) for a tank that'll fit...among the 100+ non-rectangular they do have some bow shaped tanks, but there are other shapes that should work---long wedge shaped to lie along the hull...not a true "bow" shape, but one that can lie athwartship at the aft end of the the v-berth... Think in terms of a size/shape that will work instead of an exact match for the original tank.

Not the original supplier, but they do have one that seems to be the same.
I tried my hand at plastic welding today, will try to fill the tank tomorrow to see if it worked

Filling the tank will try to pull the edges of a weld apart...which is why a successful heat weld requires melting quite a bit of both edges of the crack in addition to injecting plenty of new melted PE...so that they become a single mass. If you did that, it should work.

So I wasn’t getting anywhere with the tank, so I bit the bullet and tore up the V-berth to remove the tank, found a local plastic welder, should be ready by the end of the week, we splash the boat on Monday.
