Does anyone out there know the specs on the waste holding tank on a 1980 @7' Hunter. Mine came without one and I want to put one in the spot under the v-berth. All the hoses are there and so is the y valve.

Steve, H27?

There is a typo in your post but can assume you mean the H27. You can start with the Forum Archives. The Related Link is an example. I have my tank in the center v-berth but on an H37C. I have no H27 experience.

Original probably was a bladder

I have an H37 - 1979. By 1979 they had changed the H37 to a bladder - slightly better than the aluminum tank under the shower seat that was impossible to get at. The bladders do work if you mount them on a bulkhead. They don't have a lot of capacity, but mounted on a bulkhead, they will give a air pocket to allow the proper treatment of waste and keep the odors at bay. I am going to switch to a tank - to get more capacity. Just measure the space and see what will fit given the thru-hull, hoses, y-valve, etc.

Holding tanks weren't required on new boats until

1977...on existing vessels until 1979. So it's far more likely that Hunter switched FROM bladders to aluminum--prob'ly because they could have aluminum tanks fabricated locally for a lower cost than it cost 'em to purchase bladders--especially since they continued to install aluminum waste tanks into the '90s. Bladders are only a slightly better choice than aluminum for waste holding. The average lifespan of a bladder is only about 15 years, compared to decades for a good quality thick-walled plastic tank...and they're much more problematic than rigid tanks during those 15 years. Ronco Plastics makes TOP quality tanks for a very reasonable price, and have more than 400 shapes to choose from, including over 100 that are non-rectangular. Their catalog is on their website at http://www.ronco-plastics.com Download and print the drawings in the size range you want, take 'em to the boat along with a tape measure and figure out which one will fit the space best.
