I need to replace the aluminum holding tank. Does anyone have a drawing or has a supplier who can build a custom tank. Triple M seem to be out of business

IMHO dont even think about another metal tank. Go here.

You can get one in any size. Buy yourself a holesaw and get any fittings you require for installation at the chandlery of your choice depending on your head. For example, here

Good luck. Oh and check your plumbing lines by testing with a hot rag. Put it on them for a minute or two. Smell the rag. Head? Then they are probably permeated. Replace.

Good luck

Triple M Plastics is still in business, but you shouldn't need to pay for a custom tank. Ronco Plastics Ronco Plastics Marine Catalog makes TOP quality thick walled rotomolded water and waste tanks for a very reasonable price and has more than 400 shapes and sizes, over 100 non-rectangular. And--unlike Tank Depot (who's just a Ronco dealer)--Ronco will install fittings in the sizes and locations--as few or as many as you want--specified by the customer when they make the tank. And they sell direct.

We got a new holding tank from Ronco for our Passage 42. They had the shop drawings so was a perfect fit. They also let me upsize the vent from original. Very competiive price and quality construction.

Another vote for Ronco, did a great job on ours, replaced a fiberglass tank with stainless fittings. Recommend once you have the size you build a mock up from cardboard or cheap plywood to make sure it fits, and also you can get it into he space it belongs.

+ 1 for Ronco. Great variety, great service.

Triple M did my tank. They actually have the exact dimensions and shape on file for a Legend 375 (mine a '91). Fit perfectly. I asked them to relocate the vent to the top of the tank to preclude it getting blocked up when heeled over. Everything is perfect. Can't recall exactly but I think it was like $400 or $500 + shipping.

I just ordered a new bow water tank for our 42 Passage fro Dura-Weld here in Lake Worth FL. I went and looked over the place and liked what I saw and liked the gentlemen that is the owner.
Looking forward to getting my new tank in about 3 week. The last tank I had made was thru Triple M and it is a great tank. But their price was almost $1400. Plus shipping. This one is $905 and I can pick it up.

I hope you plan on posting pics and stuff on your project as it would be a great help to the rest of us owners of 42's who are also considering this.

hello all

i am not trying to hijack this thread, but I recently purchased a 45ft sailboat to live on.... and the owner said the waste tanks had cracked and he had removed it along with all the plumbing from the toilet to the tank.... so the bathrooms are not usable right now.... as I have a head at the front of the boat and one at the back of the boat... my question is, should I install 2 smaller waste tanks with a macerator at each for cleanout ???.... or should I just install one large tank and 1 macerator for it ???.... not sure where I would install a large tank like that on the boat ???? also what size of tank should be installed (2 smaller ones, or the large one)???...any suggestions would be much appreciated....

sincerely
Jess

How was the boat originally setup? Space considerations may drive whether you use 1 tank or 2. My boat is 42 feet with two heads and one tank and I can not realistically put a second tank in. Also consider you need a deck pumpout for each tank.

hello all

the boat has room for 2 smaller tanks under the floor, over the bilge areas.... i have 3 separate bilge areas on the boat.... 1 forward, 1 aft, and 1 under the motor... there is only 1 waste pump out on the deck now... port side just forward of the cabin trunk.... that would put the waste tank over the forward bilge area.... i can probably get about a 20 gal RV style tank in there.... in the aft area over the aft bilge, i can get about a 15 gal tank... no putting anything under the motor... although it is deep under the motor, just cannot get anything of any size under the motor unless you remove the motor....

as for adding another deck fill/pump out opening.... i need to replace the one for the old waste tank... the screw in cap is stripped... the key will not fit it and turn the cap, also the old owner said the screw threads were stripped off.... he was using a screwdriver to pry it out, until he removed the tank and hoses.... it would not be a problem for me to install 2 when i install 2 tanks for waste....

sincerely

Just consider that each tank will require a deck pump out, a vent line and if you want overboard discharge capabilities a thruhull w/valve macerator wiring and breaker. Other than that it is your choice.

The most important concern should be whether the tank is too far from the toilet for bowl contents to make it into the tank in the amount of time anyone will spend pumping a manual toilet or leave their finger on a flush button. For most toilets, that's typically only about 6'...which would indicate two toilets at opposite ends of a 45' boat would each need a separate tank.

I too would like to replace an aluminum holding tank on a 1991 Legend 35.5. Was the boat built around the existing tank? How does one remove and replace the holding tank located between the two aft transom lockers? Anyone with experience?

If you go with 1 tank, you have long runs with sewage in them.
Very bad setup. Put the tanks as close as possible to the heads.
Another deck fitting is immaterial
