Holding tank venting?

Peggy - I lost the previous thread with your answer to a similar question. But, should a holding tank be vented to relieve gas pressure build up or sealed to prevent smells?

It MUST be vented to the outside of the boat

CG regs require it because methane (which is odorless, btw) is flammable and the sulphurous gasses (which stink) can kill. What's more, unless a waste holding is vented, air in the tank displaced by incoming waste would have nowhere to go--except back toward the toilet. The tank would become pressurized, and could burst. You wouldn't be able to pump out a rigid tank...the pumpout would pull a vacuum. I hope you're asking because you plan to install an unvented bladder to hold waste. BAD choice for waste holding!
