holding tank vent hose size

Peggie,My boat came with a 12 inch hose and I have not been able to get rid on the smell so per your instructions I have decided to install a larger through hull and hose. My question is what size? 1 12 inch would be overkill but I think 58 or 34 might be enough? I am intrested in your thoughts along with anyone else with experience.thanksCharlie

Overkill is a relative term...

If it were up to me, all vents would be 3" diameter...but I don't know anyone, including me, who'd want a 3" hole in the side his boat! However, a 1" vent isn't unsightly...and that's the size I recommend. and btw....when you go looking for a 1" thru-hull, remember--you aren't looking for a "vent fitting"...there aren't any bigger than 5/8"...you're looking for a plain ol' thru-hull fitting.
