The holding tank had not be used or emptied for many years. It now has alot of sludge at the bottom of the tank. What is the recommend way to remove the sludge from the bottom of the tank??

Sludge Removal

When faced with a similar situation on the H34 I purchased last year the choice was simple for me. I replaced the entire tank, hose and head system. I did this for about $250 and it was by far the best solution. The neighbors at the marina held their noses as I paraded down the dock bear hugging a 15 gallon holding tank full of.....well you know!!! Jerry Keto ketoj@aol.com

I had a similar problem when I bought my 27. Followed Peggy's advice and put White Vinegar through the lines, into the holding tank. Followed that with minimum water. Let it sit (while I sailed for two afternoons)and it worked around. Then, I filled the holding tank with water (hose, not lake). Took her to the pump out and it was amazing!! Then, while at pump out, I flushed with water and white vinegar (1 Gallon at a time) two more times - more solids pumped out. Then, I brought her back to our slip, added my normal blue water and have had NO ISSUES since. Each pump out, I do the White Vinegar trick prior to pump out - be sute to run it thru the lines from the head, as this helps keep the lines from creating odors, too. Peggy knows her stuff, and I can tell you that we (and our guests) appreciate that!!! Good Winds, JAY
