I have a 2006 Hunter 33.
The WEMA sensor in the holding tank is no longer working.
I have checked out the wiring. All is OK
How do I access the holding tank to remove old sensor and replace it?

Manual

Check your manual for sensor diagram and see what the ohms for empty and full,go to wema web page for same testing and may just be stuck not bad.
If it's stainless it unscrews out to check for cleaning.

try cleaning it first................it should unscrew from the tank......if you have to purchase a new one........they are available at all marine stores and should be under 100 bucks...........but cleaning it should solve the issue:)

pump out your tank and refill with about a cup of detergent and water. Take her out sailing and pump out again. It may take a couple of treatments, but it should loosen up an fouling of the sensor.

I think there is a small door in the rear berth bulkhead where you could open to access the rear end of your H33. I don't remember if the tank could be access from the cockpit Port Locker.

Wema

On my 07 H-36 the the gauge stop working and without taking out the sensor there is a ohms reading you take for testing either in your manual or wema web site and my reading said it was good and not defective,I took it out and found the newer stainless tube sensor all clogged up and did clean it but still very in accurate and really not give good reading until it was full and not real warning.
I will be changing to outside tape on sensors.

This is important

Ok,,, the wema sensors screw in with 4 machine screws.
As the tank is not thick enough to take a thread, there is a threaded retainer collar inside the tank.
This is a little tricky.
There is nothing holding the retaining collar in place except the 4 screws from the top.
If you remove all 4 screws, the collar will go "plop" into the bottom of your tank.
Not good.
Here is what you need to do.
You need threaded rods about 3" long the same thread as the existing machine screws.
Now, remove 2 of the screws, and thread the rod through the sensor holes into the retaining collar with about 20 turns.
Put temporary nuts on the exposed upper ends of the studs.
Now, remove the other 2 screws.
Carefully lift up the sensor. You may have to cut some sealant to do this.
Once the sensor is 1/2" above the tank surface, carefully put two cable ties around each of the studs so that you are "capturing" it.
Now, remove the nuts from the top, and you can pull the sensor straight up.
Install in reverse order.
Use a small amount of silicone to seal the sensor when you replace it.
Do not use 4200 or 5200!!

Access is through the large panel in the aft cabin, which means reaching up onto the top of the tank either on your back or side or somehow squeeze part of you into the aft area to work.

You'll never get it apart. The Silicone is an adequate seal, and it is removable

On my hunter 33 2005 there was the same problem. Previous owner installed " gobius 4" that is sensors to just glue on the outside of the tank, can be glued onto tanks from any material, and never more problems;)
