holding tank-selector switch

It is my first season with a 28.5 and I am a bit confused about the selector switch which is on the line from the holding tank. There are three settings, "tank", "discharge", and "head". I took the faceplate off and it would appear that the valve is only meant to move through about a 60 degree range which would cover only two of the settings. Can someone assist with what configuration the removable metal handle should be in for "tank" vs "discharge"? I would like to be sure that everything is going into the tank. Thanks.

It's a y-valve...

The markings indicate which "leg" should be connected to what. Waste from the head comes into it through the foot (marked "head")...that cannot be blocked off...if it could, you couldn't flush the toilet...waste would just back up. Waste comes out one of the two branches--either to the tank (the one marked "tank"), or directly overboard at sea beyond the "3 mile limit" out the other branch marked "discharge." The handle should line up parallel to the open branch of the Y. Unless you're in coastal waters that provide immediate accesss to open sea beyond 3 miles from the nearest point on the whole US coastline--and especially if you're on an inland lake--you might as well remove and replace the hose with a single piece that goes straight to the tank....'cuz you can't ever use it, and it does the y-valve no good to stay in the same position all the time...that's what causes 'em to "freeze up."

Selector Switch?

I have a '95 29.5 and I recently replaced the head and sanitation hose to the holding tank (thanks Peggie - you book was handy). Everything is working great now (was a 10 year old Jabso - now a PHII), but I didn't see this selector (perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place). Not that I have any plan to use it, but I would like to locate it.
