Interesting that you want to replace a bladder by a rigid polyethylene: I need to replace my rigid aluminium holding tank, and since I can not find a proper replacement I wanted to replace it with a bladder: what was your experience with the bladder ? Any reasons why you want to go with that route ? Chere Peggy, any comments? Jean Hrab

Check out Ronco Plastics

Ronco offers nearly 400 shapes and sizes, including about 100 non-rectangular. They should have at least one that will fit. All are extra-thick (approx 3/8") walled, and made to order with fittings installed to each customer's specs. They're online at www.ronco-plastics.com or you can call 'em for a catalog at 714-259-1385 Ridgid poly is the only material suitable for sewage holding. For the case against bladders for sewage holding, read the article on odor control in holding tanks in the Head Mistress Reference Library.

bladder? No Way!

I tried a bladder for a couple years and never could get it to stop seeping. It was a constant source of stink. It showed signs of chafe when a rat ate a few holes in it. It went in the dumpster and I would never consider another one.

On the other hand. . . .

The 28 gal. bladder tank on my H37C has been trouble and odor free. It hangs on the inside of the center compartment of the v-berth. It takes up very little room there. I know that runs counter to anything that you will find on the Hunter web-site. Despite that I want to install a sizeable(30+ gal.) poly tank. Sizeable because we can never pump overboard. And I know of several good companies that make those sizes in the shape that I need. The problem is how to get it in the hole? I'll probably just cut a larger access and then glass it back in so that I can retain the original recessed cover.

Once you enlarge the access, Ed...

I wouldn't glass it back in. Make a larger hatch cover for it, instead...so you and/or the next owner will have complete access to it when it comes to time replace hoses. I recommend Ronco as your tank supplier. They offer more shapes and sizes than anyone else, and their tanks are about 50% thicker than anyone else's except Sealand (who only offers about 6 different sizes).

Bladders, UGH!!!!!!!

My 37 cutter came with a retrofit CW bladder. I couldn't replace it fast enough to get rid of the problems. I have described the changes I made in my posted reply to an earlier query on replacing another 37c's holding tank. Good luck and no way on a bladder. Frank SV *Stargazer
