Holding tank replacement Hunter 28

My 1990 28’s aluminum holding tank gave out, leaking from the bottom. To stop the leak I cut a 2” hole in the top of the tank and poured in 15 lbs of scented kitty litter. This did the job.
I read the other forums regarding this and found that cutting a hole in the “stateroom” bulkhead gives the access needed to remove the old. This worked well also, but was surprised at the amount of fiberglass I cut through along the bottom [top of the battery box].
I went about trying to find a tank. After reading the posts, it looked like “off the self” was not going to cut it because they were smaller, so I called Ronco and spoke to Scott. His tips on tank installation were great and THEY MADE A CUSTOM tank for me. I sent them the factory specs and they made a mold and built it.
Here is the best part, the cost was less than the “off the self” tank would have been.
Anyone out there have any tips before I install and close up?
I will be installing it soon and will post my results.

Gary, this is great! I would love Scott's contact info. I want to have an aluminum section of my pedestal made to replace the section where the shift and throttle function - a piece has broken off and is now epoxied back together. Found a guy thru this forum, on west coast, who had made them previously, but is no longer. Know three of us at least that are interested! Thank you!
Also taking notes on your repair, haven't done that one yet..... :)
Thanks,
Lisa

Job complete

As an update to replacing the holding tank. I had to enlist the help of a "smaller" person to get to some of the clamps of the hoses, but otherwise, the new plastic tank went in easier than the old one came out. I scrubbed everything clean, used new hoses and clamps, strapped the new tank down and used spray foam on the top to help hold everything in place. The hole in the bulkhead was replaced with plastic trim and screws so that I can re-open if needed.
All is well again.
Thanks to Scott at Ronco [http://www.ronco-plastics.com/] 866 355-5950 for helping me keep the maximum holding capacity at a minimum price.

Lisa-Hunter28.5 I had a plastic tank fabricated, not aluminum. Sorry. I assume you have already tried Edson Marine?
