Hello all, The aluminum holding tank in my 88Hunter30 has developed a hole in one of the fittings to the tank. I want to replace the tank, fittings and hoses. Does anyone have a supplier for the odd shaped tank ????? its sorta retangular but tapers on the bottom from 7" to 4" , the top is 17"X18". The boat completed a gulf crossing from houston to tampa two months ago with no problems!!!!! Had a blast. Randy Williams S/Y Cabaret

Two sources:

Ronco(see Related Link) makes many standard sizes in many different shapes. Go to their website and select "Tank Search". Then key in a size and see what is there. Try some different sizes. And/or give them a call, they are very helpful and the prices are great. They will also build you a custom tank albeit for a lot more money. Then there is this one that I just learned about from Steve Dion: http://www.gocctech.com/marine/boat-tank.htm I have no experience with this company. I do have a new Ronco tank in my H37C, a very substantial product. And they customize the inlet/outlet to your specs for no additional cost. Good luck with your not very much fun project.

Ronco Tanks

Thanks Ed, I will probably go with a Ronco tank unless something else pops up. I will have to settle for a little less capacity unless I want to fork over $$$$ for a custom tank. Randy

Also Try

You can also try Dura-weld. They are cheaper, but not by much, than the other fab company Ed mentioned. They also use a heavier plastic (3/8 as compared to 1/4)... See the link.. Ron

Randy, before you start this project

Read the articles "Installing a Head and Holding Tank," "Replacing Hoses," and "Holding Tank Odor--Odor Out the Vent" in the Head Mistress forum reference library (link is on the forum homepage). They all include information that will make the job a bit easier and help you do it right the first time. For waste holding, you want a tank with 3/8" walls--for several reasons: thinner tanks must be supported on all sides to prevent the tank from bulging and distorting...they're more susceptible to permeation. I'm a bit skeptical of welded poly tanks for waste holding. I've seen good ones and bad ones (the good ones usually cost a lot more)...it all depends on the quality of the weld--the skill (and attention span) of the welder to melt enough of the wall and blend enough new material evenly and without any air pockets. If you can find a thick-walled seamless rotomolded tank to fit your space, I'd make that your first choice.

Come on now.

Peggy they weld Poly pipe together to transport toxic chemcials. The space shuttle is welded together. Welded Poly is probably a better product just from the fact that the tanks walls are of a consistent thickness. I do not think that this is the case with a Rotomoulded tank (ask someone that has checked).

Reference Library Link

Peggy, For some reason the link to the reference library does not work for me. I'll try later - have removed old tank & will be cleaning & repairing area today , will not order tank till Monday. Probably Ronco. Randy

Raritan Engineering is another excellent source.

I bought a replacemnt tank for my 33.5 this summer. They custom built it to my specifications and shipped it in less than two weeks.

Works ok for me...

You have to go to the HM forum first...then click on the link to it there. Or, try it from here...

Quality is the issue, Steve

If the welding is high quality, there's nothing wrong with welded tanks. But anyone who wants invest in a heat welder and cutting equipment can make welded tanks, whether they know what they're doing or not....quality can be all over the road. Same is true of rotomolded tanks...high quality tanks have uniform wall thicknesses and corners at least 50% thicker than the walls. The wall thicknesses of low quality tanks can vary as much as 50% and have no reinforcement at the corners--in fact, just the opposite...corners that are even thinner than the walls. And btw, I HAVE checked...in fact, I used to take cutaways of cheap tanks and the high quality tanks we sold to boat shows so that boat owners could see the differences in quality for themselves.

plastic tanks

Here is a link for custom sized plastic water and waste tanks. www.gocctech.com/marine/boat-tank.htm Saw them at the Newport Boat Show. Maybe they can help you.
