1990 Hunter 35.5 When I purchased, the aluminum tank was rotted. I had to saw it in half to remove. I decided to install a flexible tank in the aft cabin under the starboard side boards, but have only had problems with it. How does one install a holding tank in the orignal place given the limited access? What type tank/size do you install?

Ronco Plastics has more than 400 shapes and sizes

...including at least 100 non-rectangular shapes. Surely one will fit your space. They build top quality, thick walled tanks at a very reasonable price, and will install fittings in the locations & sizes you specify when they make your tank. Most of their entire catalog is on their website at http://www.ronco-plastics.com Or you can call them at 714-259-1385 Before going any further, though, I suggest you read the articles in the Head Mistress forum Reference Library (on the forum home page). They will answer most of your questions, and I'll be glad to answer any they don't.

Issue is access

My last boat was a 1990 35.5. The issue is getting access to the area where the original tank was located. It is behind the bulkhead at the aft end of the aft cabin. This is a solid bulkhead with no direct access to the area behind, where the tank is. This area is at the bottom of the hull, under the cockpit lockers (or swim platform lockers, can't remember which). Basically, it went in before the deck went on, and has to be cut out, as the poster did. I know of one owner who replaced his. He cut a large access section of the bulkhead in the aft cabin. Be careful cutting so you don't damage anything behind the wood panel. A clean cut enables you to replace the cut out panel later. He just trimmed the cut with teak strips, and it looked fine. With the panel cut out, you can easily fit in one of Peggie's nice plastic tanks.
