My buddies junk has a lectra/san with no holding tank and he wants to add one. Which is best practice: pre- or post- treatment for the tank? Thanks in advance and my appologies if this question has been asked and answered already.

It's not pre- or post--it's either/or

It doesn't matter whether the waste goes into the tank directly from the toilet, or through the Lectra/San to the tank...but unless he wants to spend $500 for the Raritan "Hold 'n' Treat" system (see the recent thread about it here: http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=11&uid=73191640303&SKU=2005112072754.73),the waste can't into the tank before it goes through the Lectra/San, 'cuz unless the "Hold 'n' Treat system is installed, the tank cannot be dumped through the L/S. So the only choice is whether to put the y-valve before the L/S or after it. If he decides to go through the L/S into the tank, the tank has to be at or below the level of the L/S discharge, and be within about 6' of the L/S.
