Holding Tank on 1978 H27

Happy New Year!

The holding tank on my H27 "Respite" is rudamentary at best. Sitting as it does under the Starboard Saloon seat it looks like a 5 gallon juice can.

Can someone please direct me to a good post about older H27 holding tank arrangements?
I am self-educating, looking to source parts for a spring project.

Using the "Search" tab above with "holding tank" for the H27 there is a lot of info. That is a good starting point. There are a lot of H27 owners who will add to that I am sure.

My '80 had a Mansfield Traveller which was a nicer version of a port-a-potty with a rather large holding tank. Actually it was probably the best and most efficient setup for that boat and I may get the Sealand version at some point (I have an inexpensive port-a-potty right now plumbed for pump out). Depending on your water tank situation you may be able to put a larger holding tank in the compartment under the v-berth, otherwise the starboard settee is where yours is now is the only other option.

Holding tank

Last spring I installed a 13 gallon holding tank, and a 3 gallon fresh water flush tank in my 75 h27.
Both tanks are below the Vee berth just aft of the fresh water tank. The Holding tank is plumbed to a vent and deck pump out. The small fresh water tank is used for flushing. I have a 3 way valve in the drain to the sink in the head. When I flip the valve, filling the sink fills the flush water tank. Flip the valve back and the sink drains out via the thru hull.
I had heard stories of salt water making the holding tank really smell so I went with the fresh water flush. With my configuration there is no way of the black water backing up into the main fresh water tank.
I also removed the thru hulls for discharge and salt water intake, less chance of leaks, and it gave me a 4 year department of enviromental protection sticker.

I am sure I spent less then $200 for both tanks and all the new hoses and fittings. It took a full weekend to install. It works great and I'm very pleased.
