Peggy I was wondering if the chlorine in city water would kill the bacteria in K.O. I ask this because We and still are getting holding tank odors while sailing even after doing everything recomended in "odor cause and cure". I do use fresh water to flush at the end of weekend and for the ocasional single flush and this water is chlorinated.

There isn't enough chlorine in "city" water...

...to matter. I have a fresh water toilet, use K.O. (what else? <g>)...and it's never been an issue. When you say you're still getting odor...out the vent line only? Or inside the boat? If it's inside the boat, it won't matter what you put in the holding tank...'cuz that's not the source of the odor.

Holding tank odor

The odor is coming from the vent line. There is no odor in the boat.

Sounds like your vent line isn't...

allowing any exchange of fresh air with the gasses in the tank...and aerobic conditions are critical to success with live bacteria products. Read the article in the Head Mistress Reference Library called "Odor Control in Holding Tanks"...the fix may be a simple as just replacing your vent thru-hull fitting, or it may require some additional modification to the vent. I'll be glad to help you sort it out if you'd like to call me after you've read the article. 770-512-0075
