peggy,

i am starting to think that i am the only one on the dock with out holding tank filters! i have two tanks on my boat and both of them give off the most offensive odors. i m getting quite the reputation on my dock!

i pump out the tanks regular and always rinse out the tanks with fresh water them pump out again. i then add odorless (sp) per their directions. but still the tanks stink when the heads are in use.

i am getting ready to set up for winter storage soon, and is there anything you could recommend that i should do for winter that will solve this issue.

thanks
mike

Ya gotta be doing something wrong...

Or not doing something right...'Cuz when used as directed, Odorlos works.

Sooo...

Tell me in detail specifically how you're using it...when you're adding...when you're not...how often...when you start to have odor...or do you never NOT have odor... Give me "A month in life of your tank" in excrutiating detail.

i use odorloss all the time--is awesome stuff and works great-- when i cleaned my holding tank, i added lots of salt/sea water from under the boat and flushed out via pumpout after sitting with odorloss for a coupla days. then i rinsed it out more as i pumped out and when i had clear clean water return, i finished emptying the tank and added the odorlos and some small amount of water-- when i got back a yr later-still fresh.

Re: Ya gotta be doing something wrong...

after giving this more thought, do you think because i left the odorlos on the boat over winter it lost its effectiveness?

in answer to your question, i pump out the heads fill them with about a minute or two of hose water down the pump out opening. pump out again and close the deck fitting. i then add the odorlos by pumping through the head.

but i always have odor when someone uses the head. maybe i froze the odorlos last year.

Odorlos isn't anywhere near as temperature senstive as live bacteria products, but that didn't do it any good.

Do you add again when you come back to the boat? If you don't, what you added immediately after pumpout has been exhausated while the boat sits...so in essence, there's no treatment in the tank any more when you get back.

I don't think you did it any good, but contrary to what you claim, you are NOT using it according to directions.

Use it immediately after pumpout to prevent odor before you get back...again with the first flush after you come back to the boat...and AT LEAST every 3-5 days while you're aboard.

And try actually READING directions for a change...it makes following 'em so much easier!
