I have a Pearson 35 and the holding tank is located under the vee berth on the port side. It is a 15 gallon Kracor. I have replaced all the hoses with the new white non permeable type but to no avail. There is still an odor. I am going to remove the tank and replace all the tank fittings. What type of sealant should I use on the fittings? The tank is in good condition but should I also replace it? What product should I use in the tank to kill the odor? Peggy please help. :{

Don't do that yet...

Did you also replace the tank vent line? If not, it's likely to be at least one of the sources of your remaining odor. The other may simply be "left over" odor from your previous stinky hoses or any spill when you changed 'em that's attached itself to the cushions and every surface in that area. Buy some Raritan K.O. holding tank treatment...it's a live bacteria product that "eats" odor-producing spores (similar products are available at pet supply stores to get rid pet odor accidents, but they’re diluted and considerably more expensive). Clean up any spill area with detergent and water, but don't use bleach, Lysol or any other "antibacterial" product. When the area is dry (no more than barely damp), put some K.O. in a trigger sprayer or pump-up garden spray bottle and liberally saturate the area with it. Don't rinse...let it dry, leaving that area open so that plenty of fresh air can circulate for 24 hours. If cushions were affected, clean up and saturate (not dripping wet…just saturate enough to completely penetrate the foam) with K.O., then leave outside in the sunshine to dry all day. That will get rid of the odor permanently. If you still have odor after you’ve closed everything up again, you missed a spot. And by the way, this also works in musty wet lockers. If none of the above gets rid of the odor, get back to me before you do anything else.

Thanks Peggy

I didn't replace the the vent line on the holding tank. There are two vents going into one hose with a T-connector. I will use the Rariton KO and let you know the results. Thanks

Teeing vents together defeats the purpose of 2

'cuz it doesn't allow a flow through of air in one or out the other...iow, it doesn't work any better than a single vent line in keeping the tank aerobic. So unless you want to install a second vent thru-hull, when you replace the vent line you might as well just plug the second vent and run a single vent line off the other one.
