My 2007 Hunter 36 holding tank gauge is not working ,the sending unit in the tank was replaced and repaired at the dealer twice but still not working.
I would like to know if I can change the sending unit inside the tank to the stick on out side type sending.
I would like to use the stock wiring and gauge that I have which shows the water tank level and holding tank level, holding tank is not working but water is working.

I don't understand the question...what do you mean by "output range?" However, I think your questions are answered in the "documentation" for the panel and the sensor on the New Providence website (link above). Look under "literature." If you can't find the answer there, give Dennis Ferrriello a call on Monday.

Standard float-type sensors change the resistance across the sensor wire from 240 ohm to 33 ohm, and the gauge picks up this resistance to show the correct level. I'm trying to determine if any of the popular external stick-on sensors work in the same fashion.

The documentation is pretty slim on technical details.

Aha....thanks for explaining it. Since the Profile external senders--and their internal senders too--are interchangeable with most float senders and other mfrs' external senders, I'm guessing that the output range on all of 'em would be the same. But to be certain, give Dennis a call or email him...he'll know what will work with system. "New" phone number on their website doesn't seem to work, so call this one: (435) 656-0042. I've left him a message to check out this thread..so he'll prob'ly answer your question right here.

And btw, he's VERY responsive to phone and emails. And as others will confirm, he doesn't BS...if it won't work, he'll say so.

The Profile gauge senders are compatible with Wema wiring and panel. Give Dennis a call next week...phone # is on their website New Providence Marine Tank Monitors & Tank Level Sensorshttp://www.newprovidencemarine.com/
>>>>>Peggie:
First looked at the New Providence site and did notice that they still don't have a correct phone. They moved to a new building and never did get a phone. As it is just production they really don't need a phone.
Please send all inquiries to: www.ferriellosales.com when they can get hold of me and I will take care of them.

>>>>>>>Seadaddler: If you will go to my site and send me an email on the contract page with a number to call I will give you a call. I need to ask you a few questions about the Hunter unit.
Sorry about the bad number on the New Providence site if you tried to call them.

Output Range

Any idea on the output range of the stick-on sensors? I'd like to incorporate them into a system with custom gauges.
Our exterior sensor is 0-5 volts. Call me if you have an additoinal questions
Also Peggie because of the phone number problem anyone who mentions the phone mistake when they talk to me if they want a unit I will give them a 20% discount for the month of January. Sorry for the problem with the New Providence page the phone numbers have been removed.
My page is not as nice looking as Dave's but it has the same info.

Not what you want, but maybe what you bought

Nick -

My 05H36 has, I believe, the same holding tank sensor.

This is another (cost-saving?) Hunterism.

I guess it may have been from some other application and a stock on-hand. In any event, the sensor range-of-motion doesn't let the float drop all the way down to read low amounts in the H36's holding tank.

Hence, it shows "empty" up to almost 1/3 full - after which it reads from that "empty" (which isn't) up to the "full" (which is, believe me).

The reduced range results in a fairly rapid shift from what appears to be a completely empty tank to one requiring your immediate attention.

I love my H36, and appreciated the amount of boat for the price. But, like all Hunters it does have these little "Hunterisms." This is one of the ones that goes with this model.

Take off the rear cabin access panel and half-fill the tank with water through the pump-put port. With the starboard lazarette cover open, there will be enough light to shine through the tank, showning its liquid level. You may have a dead sensor, but I suspect you just have what you/we bought.

Fair winds,
Al

Re: Not what you want, but maybe what you bought

My 2008 H36 is the same way. I called the Hunter dealer after seeing the tank was about 1/2 full and the gauge wasn't registering. Their explaination was that Hunter didn't want the float to get stuck in the sludge at the bottom of the tank so they raised the float level. Sounds like it is a random height that they choose to set it though.

I haven't met a lot of bad folks in the sailing community, but recently I've run into a few real class acts. I give you one Dennis Ferriello - a better guy you won't meet.

I just sent him an email with more detail into my question posted above, and before I could finish my drink (and I finish them fast) he calls with answers, guidance, suggestions, and better prices than the competition.

Heck, it's Saturday night! The local marine mega-mart probably isn't even open (and don't dream of getting a competent rep on the phone)...

Nevermind that Dennis probably did business with the guy who laid up my hull, he's just good people.

If you're in the market for tank monitoring, or probably anything else that carries electrons and is attached to your boat, he's your man. At a minimum, let him quote your job.

And in case you're the suspicious type, he doesn't know I'm writing this and isn't giving me anything for it (nor would I let him).

I didn't expect such a very nice write up. I do appreciate it very much. I enjoy helping people, always have and always will. I hate bad service which I receive more then I would like to mention. But no one will ever say that they didn't get treated fair and got a repsonse in a resonable time. Even though I am on vacation I feel I still have to make an effort to help people.
Thanks again for the great letter I appreciate it very much.

Dennis, did you determine if the sending unit works with the Hunter gauge? I'd like to replace mine as well so I don't have to keep removing the access panel to check the level. Mine's a 2005 H33, but 2 hours away and under wraps so I can't give you much more information on the gauge. also, do you ship to Canada.

Thanks,

Any idea on the output range of the stick-on sensors? I'd like to incorporate them into a system with custom gauges.
The output voltgage for the external sensors is 0-5 volts the same as our PVC internal rods. Our panel is supplied with 12 Volts, the panel regulates the voltage to the sensor with 10 Volts. The sensor then provides back to the panel 0-5 volts.
The panel will read the 0-5 volts it will also read 33-240 ohms, 240-33 ohms, and also some sensor that require a long read voltage.
