Holding Tank Location/Fittings on Catalina 30

Greetings, I'm in the middle of adding a holding tank to my 1984 Catalina 30 (which I just purchased); it's never had a holding tank. I was trying to put a tank under the v-berth (in front of the existing fresh-water tank), but can't find anything in all of Ronco's 400+ tanks that works (I've even built a few out of cardboard to try them. So, I think I'm going to have to go with putting one under the port settee, where I believe most Catalina 30's have them. So, my questions (to anyone kind enough to reply) are these: Where is your holding tank located? Where does your vent line come out? Where does your pumpout come out on deck? Where do you have your syphon loop? Where do you have your Y-valve to choose between discharging overboard or to the holding tank? Where, on your holding tank, are the fittings for the input from head, vent, pumpout, and drain to throughhull located? Thanks, Barry

Try the C30 Assoc website

where you most likely can find a manual which has the locations and the hoses shown for stock boats. www.catalina30.com or org or www.c30,.etc. With a new-to-you C30, you should become very familiar with that website.

Stu is right......

You can get the diagrams of the system at that website... My '83 has the tank just to the port side of the bow freshwater tank.....

Nice Site

I visited the site you mentioned and have spent the entire day perusing the archived messages. Great wealth of knowledge and tips there! Thanks for the hint. (Haven't gotten to the diagams, yet, but will keep looking.)

Nice position

Frank, Do you know if your holding tank position was standard? I'm very interested in that location because I'd rather put my holding tank somewhere in the bow; there's a lot more room up there and it's not as accessible for storage as underneath the port settee (which is the only other space available for it, and where I've seen most of them.) The port side bow is also right where my waste throughhulls are located, which would minimize plumbing. I actually built, out of cardboard, a couple of Ronco's tanks that looked like they were designed Ronco B-115 fresh water tank that's installed there already), but not of them were a very good fit. Of course, with enough wooden framing and glasswork they'd work, but since I don't know how to do that (yet), I was looking for something easier. Does your holding tank shape fit the space, or is it mounted there with glass/wood? Is it a Ronco tank? Thanks, Barry

tank size ?

Barry.. I am traveling now and don't have access to the exact location but i think, since i just bought the boat last spring, that it is maybe just a 10 gallon tank.. That might not be big enough for you but fits well there... and you are right, all the plumbing with the y valve fits in the same space.. see if you can find on that is smaller than the one you are trying... It is plastic and I think was store bought but i don't know the maker... sorry, its the best info I have! the diagrams are under plumbing see.. http://www.catalina30.com/TechLib/PartsManual/C30%20Parts%20Manual.htm

I put mine in the stern

My '77 C30 didn't have a holding tank either. I put a 20 gal tank in the port sail locker (cockpit). The pump out fitting is right on the deck above it. The vent is mounted thru the stern. The Y valve is near the head near the thru hull. I prefer to keep the holding tank outside and not under the V berth. On occassion you will get oders from it.

How much pumping

is required with the tank so far away? I like the idea of having the holding tank away from the living space, but it seems like a lot of plumbing..... Are you also rigged up to empty the holding tank offshore (through hand or mascerator pump), or do you just use the pumpout? Thanks, Barry
