I had a holding tank installed in a 1980 H27. The tank was installed in the forward Vberth between the bulkhead and the water tank. The installers did not secure the tank. Is this a problem? If so, how should it be secured? Thanks!

Problem

Should it be secured? Yes, it most definitely, absolutely, MUST be secored. How should it be secured? It should be secured by dragging the original installers back to the boat to do the proper job that should've been done in the first place!!!

Nylon straps

I used 1" wide nylon straps that went around the holding tank and a part of the base that was secured to the hull. I then used turnbuckles through the ends of the straps to tighten them. Really please with the results and it was easy and cheap.

It prob'ly should be secured..and MAY already be

All that's really neccessary is some means of making sure the tank can't slide in any direction. If your tank cannot slide at all, no matter how much or which direction your boat heels or pitches, no need to secure it...'cuz holding tanks don't bounce up and down. That can be accomplished in a number of ways...by simply wedging it tightly between bulkheads or another tank and a bulkhead...by strapping it down (plastic lawn chair webbing works great)...or by bracing the bottom corners with some quarter round epoxied to the surface the tank sits on. Regardless of which method you use, it's also a good idea to put some "non-skid shelf liner" under it--the rubber mesh stuff you can buy the roll at Walmart works just fine.
