I own a '79 Hunter 27 that I bought last year and want to know if the original boat came with the holding tank installed or were they retrofited by the first owners. I have found a hole on the top of it approx 3-4 " diameter for some type of top and it's wide open . I can't see it only feel it with my hand when I crawl under the foward v berth. Can you imagine what the inside cabin smells like on a hot day? Any suggestions PLEASE HELP. Please respond to toothrx@home.com. Thanks, Steve

Sounds like the inspection port cap is missing

If it's a round hole, and you can feel threads in it, that's definitely it. The standard size is 3". West Marine can order one for you from any of their tank suppliers...just be sure you specify that you want one with an o-ring. Since several tank gauges replace the inspection port cap, I suspect a previous owner removed one that failed and never bothered to replace it or replace the cap.

Peggy, are you saying

That I could get a gauge for the hoding tank that would screw into the inspection plate on my H31? If so, can you give me some names of manuf so I can go looking? If not, sure would be a great idea.

Depends on what size shape inspection plate

SeaLand makes one that just replaces the standard round 3" inspection port, but unless you have a need to plug the hole, I'd go with the Snake River gauge instead (but don't go by the photo in the WM catalog--they screwed up and used photo of a SeaLand TankWatch III)...it goes on the outside of the tank, works better and costs considerably less. Check out their website at www.snake-river.org

Acugage

If you were looking for our website on the 14th, we just switched servers and we have been off line since then. They are supposed to get us back on line today or tomorrow. You can see our units in the HOW Store. There are pictures of the units we make. Our e-mail is down also, Dennis@snake-river.org, you can use snake.river@gte.net which works now. Thanks for your interest Dennis Snake River Electronics

Thanx

Thank you very much. We were going to cut an access hole above the tank and then epoxy over the hole in the holding tank. I will probably cut out the access panel anyway since I was able to see the vent hose coming out of the tank pinched off and kinked. Maybe thats why someone took the cap off in the first place. STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Again thank you for your help Steve
