I am installing a complete sanatary system (toilet, holding tank, plumbing, etc.) Where is the best location for the holding tank? and where to acquire? I am leaning toward placing it beneath the starboard setee. The fresh water tank takes up the entire area below the v-berth. A friend wondered about using the no longer used diesel fuel tank. Where is a good source for holding tanks?

Where is the head located in the boat?

Forward just behind the v-berth, or at the aft end of the cabin? How many gallons is the water tank? Is it metal or plastic? Where is the unused fuel tank located? Is it metal or plastic?

Holding Tank Location

Check under the V-berth again. My water is on the port side,where pressure pump is fixed to P-liner and holding tank is on the starboard. Unless previous owner took out the starboard H- tank and replaced it with new water tank for more capacity- Hell who drinks or showers w/ that much water! My Y-valve fits on the starboard liner and leads from the head, below the wet gear locker with a hole already in place. Starboard settee is going to be a problem with thru holes, and more importantly finding a shallow rectangle tank to fit in that space, especially with the fiberglass divider found on both P & S settees. Good Luck and keep sailing, John

Starboard Bench

would be the best place on our 1977 lay-out. It could be a foot or two from the head; There is easily room under our bench where there is no divider; You could run the pump-out and air pipe up to the deck level in the head. (Where both are located on our portapotty system.); There is no liner under our benches, so you could make a sound thru-hull for flushing water there. David Lady Lillie

Put head intake thru-hull in the head

where it's readily accessible...which is what CG and ABYC safety standards call for. As for a tank source, Ronco Plastics...they make TOP quality tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes, including over 100 that are non-rectangular, a number of long triangular shapes that fit in a settee. And they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank. Their catalog is on their website at http://www.ronco-plastics.com

To Peggy, The head is aft of the v-berth, starboard side. Diesel fuel tank is beneath the cockpit. I have seen the Ronco site and will probably be getting a tank from them. (Forgot to call them today). There is a thru hull under the toilet site.

@Holding Tank for 79' 27'

To John, The water tank looks like a single unit. I cannot see any indication that there was ever a replacement. There are no hoses going from the head to the forward compartment...

How many gallons is the water tank?

Is it plastic or metal? If it's plastic, and depending on how much it holds, it may make more sense to convert it to waste holding and buy a new water tank...'cuz neither of your proposed locations for a waste holding tank--the settee and especially not the fuel tank--are good choices for waste holding, but would be fine for water.
