Has anyone ever replaced the holding tank located in the v-bearth area? I am in need of replacement and have had no luck locating one that will fit the area without modifications. Any help/ideas will be appreciated. JB sailboatman@cs.com

Can't it be repaired?

JB: Can't it be repaired? It is made out of fiberglass. It would seem to me that you can have someone do some fiberglass repairs and reseal the tank. The only practical place to reposition the tank is on the starboard side under the settee. This is going to exacerbate the starboard list. If you are going to have it repaired, you may also be able to have it enlarged too.

Holding Tank

I always thought that the forward tank was molded into the boat and not a seperate tank. Never had mine open but it just appeared to part of the boat. Please let me know.

replaced holding tank on H31

I bought my boat 2 years ago after the previous owner had it on stands for four years with a full holding tank. The fiberglass was permeated and worthless. I cut it out with a circular saw after removing all hoses and taping shut all openings. I carefully removed the old tank, trashed it, painted the interior fiberglass in the V berth with oil based paint to seal the old remaining permeated fiberglass, scrubbed the carpet on the walls multiple times, built some wood(pressure treated 2x4s) for a slatted floor in the V berth hull bottom, and got a 22 gallon holding tank from West Marine ( I think Tempo) that was retangular, epoxied all wood and strap holders in, reconnected all new hoses, with two hoses for tank fresh air( one on each side of the boat, used K.O. bacteria mixture in each tank; - and it works fine. I build triangular opening doors where the original holding tank was removed and now I have a bigger, non smelly holding system in my H31 with a little additional storage space. Also I installed a new head. I still am working with some residual smell in the bilges from long standing slop, but my tank system is excellent. Hope this helps. John
