Holding tank filling up daily?

I'm 99% certain we solved his problem on the phone this afternoon. Toilets are Jabsco Quiet Flush fresh water. When he turned off the water pump breaker the bowl and the tank stopped filling up. That's a pretty strong indication that the solenoid valve in the flush water line is leaking...fairly common problem. So flush water was still running into the toilet. As the bowl filled up, it seeped through the joker valve into the tank. When the tank fills up enough to overflow into the toilet discharge line, it sends the water--along with any waste in the tank--back to the toilet...BOTH toilets, and out the tank vent too. Plus the solenoid valve didn't appear to be installed correctly...he couldn't see a vented loop in the line (valve should have been installed in it) and there didn't seem to be one in the photo he sent me. So I'm pretty sure that the solution is a new solenoid valve correctly installed. But just be sure I gave him the phone number for the direct line to Jabsco's toilet guru Paul Campagna. Bruce will give him a call in the morning and report back to us.

Good to see you still hanging out on the forums Peggie.

I still have my copy of your book.... and the boat head functions perfectly.

Glad to hear it! I decided to keep hanging around for a while longer when I released a new book 2 years ago....I'm guessing you have the first one. The current edition has been completely updated and includes a lot more useful info. You can see how much more is included at the link in my signature below.

I would personally like to thank all of you who weighed in on my holding tank issue with your sage advice. Especially Peggy and also her guru contact to Paul from Jabsco. This has been very educational on day 4 of owning my new boat. In the end, it looks like the solenoid. After watching a number of training videos at Jabsco I was able to take the solenoid apart and clean it then when I put it back together the water continued to flow in from the top of the bowl after I flushed it once. FYI, I also know that I have a freshwater pressured closed system that does not have individual head seacocks as they both flow directly into a holding tank. To be safe I will also be ordering a few new joker valves to be safe and to have one on hand just in case. Thank you again and as I'm only on section 5 of 15 section owners manual I'm sure you'll hear from me again! Cheers and safe boating.

@Bruce Merit Glad we were all able to help out. I keep a spare joker valve in the head. When I orient new crew to the proper operation of the head, I take out the spare and tell them that everything must go through this small valve. And if it doesn't they get to clean it out. ;) They get the message.

That is a great idea, gives them the perfect visual! Thank you for the tip, I'm sure it will come in handy.
