i bought a transom-mount mast holder with a roller for my c22 along with a bow pulpit fiberglass mast holder. i'm a trailer sailor who now wants to sail alone at times and i'd like to rig up a couple of blocks so that i hoist the mast upright, alone, from the cockpit, cleat it off, secure the lower shrouds, and then secure the forestay. the mast is about 50lbs. i'm thinking 2 blocks but what kind, specifically? i'm a novice but i learn quickly. any/all ideas welcome. i'm still in the planning stage and i'm trying to keep this simple without having to purchase cranks, etc. thanx.

If the line on the boom vang is long enough

I would think that is good enough. The 4:1 purchase would do the trick.....and unlike an arrangement with blocks only, the cleat will let you stop in the middle of the job or take your time once the mast is raised while securing the forestay. Your only problem would be with stabilizing the mast from sway. Some folks put in baby stays to control that problem. Brad

Valdo, Get a manual or copy a manual for...

the 19' thru 26' Hunter in the 1995 year and you will find a very good discription of how and what you will need to raise a mast. I do mine by myself and it is very safe and requires no rushing or worry. Ray PS. The Catalina 25/250 is another good plan.
