I have been talking with Martin at Somerset Sails in Barker New York about a new Mainsail for my 2002 Hunter 270 that would be about 250 square feet, bigger than the 170ish square feet on my existing Mainsail. It would be full battens & radial cut. The price is very good, with Martin taking my existing Mainsail in trade. I bought sails from Martin for my last boat and was very pleased.
I am interested in a high roach mainsail as I will be replacing my existing 170% Genoa with a 110% to aid pointing & would like to have the additional square footage in the Mainsail for downwind sailing. I started racing this year and need the pointing capabilities of a 110% that sheets inside the shrouds, but need downwind speed.
I would be interested in advice & comments re experience with high roach mainsails on Hunter B&R rigs.
