High moisture reading on keel

I have recently had my series 1 (ex petrol) albin vega surveyed and it
has shown a high moisture reading on the keel. The location is to the
rear of the keel, between the ballast and the rudder stock. It sounds
hollow and there is some movement of the fibreglass under thumb
pressure. The area is about 2 ft wide by 15 inches high. The surveyor
suggested that the fibreglass may have delaminated between the layers
or between the fibreglass and whatever is in the void. He suggested as
a first step cutting a hole in the keel to ascertain what is the
problem.

I would really appreciate some advice if anybody else has had this
problem and what they did to resolve it. And also any suggestions as
to where the moisture might have come from. As far as I can see this
part of the hull is totally encapsulated with no access.

Thanks Mick Hoffe

Think that area might be normal for that.
Also think most of the metal is forward in the
keel.

The location of voids, water, sand?, iron?,
and stuff has been described previously
if u search the previous posts.

Also a drain plug down at bottom somewhere.

Go to the main yahoo albin vega page n u
can search.

I have a series 1, # 169. that area that you describe is hollow except
for some foam, before I bought it in December of last year the previous
owner had it hauled and opened up, there was some moisture in there but
not enough to worry about or to justify the expenseâ¦. The iron
ballast starts just forward of this area, if there is no delamination
there you should be good

I don\'t know where the drain plug is located.-

I think this void space was originally sealed. My hull 703 didn't have a
drain plug in this area but I did add one this year. When the boat is
hauled out the area seeps from several spots and when I drilled a hole
for the drain plug a cup or so of water seeped out. Unfortunately
several years back this area froze before I realized I had this problem.
Now the area is bulged out and separated no doubt from the foam inside.
I plan to get some advice on cutting this damaged area out and repairing
after this sailing season. If anyone here has already done this or has
some advice on a solution for this, please post. Colin...Isis V-703mickhoffe wrote:
