A Recent survey has revealed a VERY high moisture content in the hull of a 430. Does anyone have a similar experience or any advice to offer?

Second Opinion?

I read a local article on mosture detection, and there were examples of wildly erroneous readings. I wish I could recall the publication, but in any event, it has made me very wary of the accuracy of the diagnostic. I have never heard of a boat of that vintage with that kind of issue. Most were mid 1970's to mid 1980's. I would not spend a dime on any remedial process until and unless it was verified a second time by someone who is arms-length away from a repairing source, and certainly not without a core sample checked by a lab. What caused you to get one in the first place? Rick D.

I agree with Rick...

sounds a little odd to me too. Are you sure the reading was done properly? Did this surveyor really know what he was doing? I have seen boats hauled where the surveyor takes a reading before the boat is dry and without scraping paint off down to the gel coat before taking a reading. Wet bottom, wet paint...no wonder the moisture level is high.
