Don't worry Waffle, By August you will be missing

this cold. Happy Easter and Passover to you and everyone too.

Ross, no I will not

for two reasons. First, my boat has air conditioning. Second, I boat down the shore. We get a great sea breeze and it is almost always 10 degrees cooler than inland. Best of all we almost always have air!

Awww Waffle, you never get to experience

the doldrums. Just a wonderful flat, glassy calm with the air so hot that you can't touch any thing metal and you dump a bucket of water into the cockpit to cool the floor so you don't burn your feet. The ice melts in your drink long before you finish it.

Awww Ross, been there done that

I used to sail out of the northeast river and the Sassafras River to Turkey Point in August. We could count on NO WIND! We had a San Juan 21 with a 6 HP Chrysler outboard. The motor used to get floated and not start for 5 minutes. One time a big ship was heading right for use and there was NO WIND. That darn motor just didn't want to start. Darn thing started in the nick of time. I still have the motor but it hasn't be started in 20 years. First thing I did when the boat became mine was buy a new motor. I like the Chesapeake. You have a lot of nice places to sail to, ST Michaels, Annapolis, Baltimore, Still Pond. Great place to visit but I wouldn't want to keep a boat there.

Waffle, I feel the same way about metropolitan

NY. My sister lives in Larchmont and has a place in Orient. Now Gardener bay I could take but not Larchmont-Rye- Greenwich area. Too many people.

But Where else can you get a view like this?

Too many people is a reason not to pick a place not live. Winds / Air is a reason to pick a place to sail!

Ross, Waffle, happy holidays.

Although I now live in Tribeca (lower Manhattan) I grew up on LI and spent summers on Gardners Bay. I will be coming down to Ross's back yard on May 4-6 for another overnight on the mid Chesepedake with old high school friends. The east end of LI is great and the Chese is also great but NY Harbor is not a relaxing place for a cruise at anytime due to commercial traffic. The Chese is a bit shallower than around LI but you get to know the devil you love. I have grown to love sailing on the Hudson up by Nyack with its cliffs and lack of recreational boaters. I just miss the long tacks that you can take on the Sound or the Chese and the smell of the salt water. I watched those towers fall that are behind Waffle in the picture some time ago and now I have navigated around this overly developed island of Manhattan a few times since then. There where earth movers down in the pit last night when I passed the site. I guess they are digging out a new foundation finally. Waffle, where do you keep your boat in the NYC area? Oh, and that movie did not move but it was a nice picture.

I kept my boat for 2 seasons at Steppingstone Marina, right around the corner from Douglaston Harbor. Right near Kings Point Maritime school. It was a pretty scenic area with the Throggs Neck Bridge, the cadets practising manouvers in small sailboats with some blowhard yelling at them with a bullhorn, avoiding stepping on the Steppingstone rocks and Lighthouse. All western LI Sound points pretty easily accessible if some dentist did not run you down with his motor yacht. I miss the Sound though but have not forgotten that my boat can take me there in a half days sail, if we are both willing. It only takes about an hour to drive from Nyack to LI but it takes what it takes on the boat. Hope everyones holiday went well. Cheers and happy launch (soon).
